Edward Hudgins is a Senior Economist for the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress. Before joining the Committee staff this year, Hudgins worked for over eight years at the Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based think-tank, where he was both Deputy Director for Domestic Policy Studies and Director of the Center for International Economic Growth. During those years he traveled extensively, studying and promoting free markets around the world as well as in the U.S. Hudgins has a Ph.D. in Political Philosophy from Catholic University in Washington. Among the places he has taught are Catholic University, and the University of Maryland, both in College Park, Maryland and Munich, Germany.

Dr. Hudgins is currently Director of Regulatory Studies for the CATO Institute, one of Washington's most influential pro-capitalist think-tanks. He spoke at the Institute for Objectivist Studies Summer Seminar in 1996 on "An Individualist Perspective on Civil Society."
